Transitioning from Plug and Perf to Efficient Cemented Completions Systems

Please join us on Thursday October 27, 2016 where we will have a discussion on the transition from “Plug-and-Perf” completion methods to efficient cemented completions systems in an effort to optimize production while being mindful of financial cost.

Given the declining prices of oil and gas in our industry, we have seen a new drive to determine cost-effective solutions for increasing ultimate recoveries. It’s clear that more stages, more water, and more proppant – at much higher costs (the sledge hammer approach) – can achieve some results, but do we have the ability to be more effective while spending less?

More evidence has come out to determine that combining geoscience with an efficient cemented completion system may provide the ability to reduce costs while significantly increasing ultimate recoveries. This talk will discuss how to effectively transition away from “Plug-and-Perf” to efficient cemented completion systems and how applying geoscience can provide increases of more than 50% in ultimate recoveries.

Dan Themig, P.Eng. (Packers Plus)

Mr. Themig pioneered some of the technologies that revolutionized the oil and gas industry and enabled producers to economically access reserves in unconventional plays. Over his 30-year career, he has served in key engineering and technical positions in both Canada and the US, and has been involved in advanced horizontal and multilateral projects worldwide. In 2000, Mr. Themig and two partners started Packers Plus in Canada and now employ nearly 750 staff across 32 countries worldwide.

Mr. Themig holds a B.Sc. in Engineering from the University of Illinois and an MBA from Oklahoma State University. He is a registered professional engineer and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). He also serves on the board of directors for several energy industry companies. Mr. Themig received the 2010 SPE Meritorious Engineering Award, the 2012 Sproule Innovation and Achievement award, holds more than a dozen patents, and has authored numerous published technical articles.
